EP:48 - 3 GIFTS OF FORGIVENESS + FREE FORGIVENESS MEDITATION
Now I’ve done a lot of self forgiveness with my body before..
I forgive myself for buying in the misbelief that I am unloveable.
I forgive myself for judging myself as fat, ugly and gross.
I forgive myself for buying into the misbelief that I deserve punishment for eating today.
I forgive myself for buying into the belief that my only value comes from being 10lbs lighter.
I forgive myself for buying into the misbelief that I am a fraud.
That I should be in a different place than I am in right now.
Sweet body, please forgive me.
Needless to say, I have done a LOT of forgiveness work. I did an entire episode on what is self forgiveness for our bodies. If you are listening to the podcast it’s Episode #7. And if you’re on the blog, here's the link.
But I needed some work on forgiving others. And he is what I learned. As I practiced forgiveness I received 3 gifts.
Gifts of Forgiveness:
1. It frees us from prison
2. It invites us into a new story
3. It reminds us we are loveable
Forgiveness really is letting go of the belief that we are broken or that other people are broken. It reminds us that it’s ok to be human and that we are still loveable. That innocence has never left. Our basic goodness has never left. We all have that still inside ourselves. And forgiveness reminds us again to come back home to that truth. It’s an act of deep love.
Recognizing we are no different.
That everyone deserves grace.
And that we are all doing the best that we can.
Forgiveness is a release from the past.
It allows us to step into a new future where we are free from the prison of suffering.
So I love this exercise from Louise Hay and Robert Holden out of their book “Life Loves You” and it’s called the Forgiveness Scale. I cannot take credit for this. This is so powerful, and I did not come up with this one, but I do want to share it with you. I also highly recommend buying this book.
It’s scaling forgiveness from 0=100%.
For example: You begin by choosing someone to focus on. And I think choosing yourself is always a beautiful place to start.
Get in a meditative state with a journal…
Ask “From 0-100%, how much have I forgiven this person?” Be honest and write down your answer.
So let’s say you’re working on forgiving yourself
And you rate yourself as a 60%. 1st notice what it’s like to be at 60%. How does being at 60% affect the way you live your life? How does it affect your happiness, your health, and your success? How does it affect your relationships with yourself and others. Your capacity to be intimate, to trust and to connect? How does being at 60% affect your relationship to food? Abundance, money, creativity and your spirituality?
Now for the next step, Take the number 60% up to 70%. Or even just a little bit more. And once you imagine that affirm. “ I am willing to fogive myself 70%. Say this a few times and notice your response. Stay with it until it feels comfortable. And slow keep moving up the scale. 80%, 90%.
In this process you will eventually reach 100%.
You are rehearsing forgiveness.
It may take a few times for this to really take root, but you are actively choosing it.
So my encouragement to you is to do this practice for 3 Days straight. See what happens when you release and let go.
I want to offer you all a FREE RESOURCE + Forgiveness Audio Meditation.
I love this audio meditation because it really focuses on forgiving yourself for all the times you judged yourself, believed you weren’t worthy of love, success or happiness. Forgiving yourself for the times your judged your body, your appearance, your ability, your resourcefulness etc. It’s POWERFUL. And I think you’ll keep coming back to this guided forgiveness meditation again and again. And of course that is my gift to you.
