It’s nice to meet you again.” Someone said this to me after the Release Fire Ceremony, and it has forever stayed in my heart. Honestly, there is no better way to describe my experience with Mary’s Self Discovery Retreat in Peru, and you will truly never find a more beautifully mind-blowing journey. Not only was it the perfect first trip to see the culture & heart of this country, but I left with a renewed sense of self, a clear divine purpose, a fire in my spirit, and a strength in my soul. It was a reintroduction to my Truest Self.

DAY ONE: 9/23

We will fly in Lima, Peru together as a group.

We will meet our wonderful local guide Cristian Calderon Pacheco and he will escort us to a fabulous dinner.

Then we will enjoy a beautiful 1st night at the charming 4 star Hostel El Patio Bed and Breakfast before flying out to Cusco the following morning.

DAY 2: 9/24

Cusco and Sacred Valley

In the morning we will fly from Lima to Cusco.

The flight is around 50 minutes.

The city of Cusco is considered the oldest living city in America, with an approximate age of 3,000 years. After a delicious organic lunch in Cusco, we will head to the Sacred Valley to spend our first night together.

We will be staying at a beautiful Inn called the Posada Las Casitas del Arco Iris.  Each bungalow is equipped with a luxury bathroom and an open fireplace. Our food will come from the hotel's organic gardens, which also attract many hummingbirds, swallows, larks and butterflies.

This truly unique accommodation is in the heart of the Sacred Inca Valley, surrounded by the powerful Andes Mountains and in the bed of the sacred Vilcanota river, which makes this region one of the most fertile in Cusco.

We will close the day with a powerful Shamanic Welcome Fire Ceremony at the hotel to release any individual negativity into the fire, harmonize the group and prepare for our journey together!

DAy 3: 9/25

Moray and Salt Mines

In the morning we will visit a beautiful place called Moray where you will be able to witness the magical landscape design of the ancient Andean man.  Moray is a magical and stunning place and is known as an archaeological and sacred site. We will start off with a powerful meditation and simple yoga set to connect with ourselves and the land.

After our meditation and yoga we will join our Shaman for a special Despacho Ceremony. In the Andean tradition, important beginnings very often involve a ceremony called a Despacho. In its purest form, a Despacho ceremony is an expression of love and gratitude and will initiate the beginning of our time spent in the Sacred Valley.

In a Despacho ceremony, a beautiful prayer bundle is assembled as an offering to the Earth, the Apus (mountain spirits,) the stars, the waters. You are welcome to bring a personal item to offer to Pachamama (Mother Earth) as part of the ceremony.

The Despacho is an act of love and gratitude that heals us by restoring the connections we share with all helping beings, elements, spirits, and sacred places.

Then we will continue the day with a delicious picnic lunch in one of the best restaurants: the natural outdoors on the side of the road looking out into the mountains.

After lunch, we will head to the Salt Mines. We will be visiting and treading on ground salt that is composed of 5,000 pools where the water seeps into the ponds and evaporates from the sunshine, making crystals of salt and after a month it is harvested. This is absolutely breath taking.

Day 4: 9/26

Pisac & Ollantaytambo

We will open the day with beautiful meditation. Then after breakfast at the hotel we will departure to Pisac and visit an important archaeological site. This site combines the mystical Incan constructions with the natural richness of the Valley. As was customary in Incan architecture, cities were built on around the symbolism of specific healing animals. Pisac, was constructed like a partridge a bird known for spirituality. We will experience a very fertile land and explore lots of plants and terraces.

After the tour we will have lunch at a local organic restaurant where the produce comes from their own organic garden. After lunch we will be able to shop at the most amazing local market.

The textiles are amazing!

On market days, local farmers and artisans travel from many different villages. Many come from remote populations high in the Andes. They offer such things as ceramics, sweaters, ponchos, tapestries, rugs, musical instruments, colorful weavings, and fresh food.

After shopping we will head to Ollantaytambo known to locals as the origin of a epic love story and a powerful energetic center. We will hike the walls of the ancient relic City of Stone to the Temple of the Sun and I will lead us in a meditation there to help prepare us for Machu Picchu.

The evening will be reserved for a powerful workshop led by Mary to help release our limiting beliefs. She will use meditation, writing exercises, essential oils and lecture. You will leave your past behind and emerge with more strength and grace to fulfill your life's purpose!

DAy 5: 9/27

Train to Aguas Calientes / Machu Picchu

We will open the day with beautiful meditation. After breakfast we will take the train from the town of Ollantaytamboto to the town of Aguas Calientes (literally "hot waters" or "hot springs"), which sits at the base of the mountain of Machu Picchu.

The train ride itself feels like you are headed to Hogwarts. It's so magical and the train track travels beside the Incan river trail leading up to Machu Picchu.

You will sip on a tasty beverage while enjoying panoramic views heading into the small town.

Arriving to Aguas Calientes, we will spend the afternoon exploring and enjoying a free afternoon walking around touring the town or enjoying the tranquil hot springs.

DAy 6: 9/28

Machu Picchu All Day

After breakfast we will take the bus ride up to the crystal city Machu Picchu, located between the mountains and the sky. This will literally blow your mind, and is known to be a once in a life time dream for many! This place is so magical and so beautiful. We will spend the day hiking, exploring and doing several private meditations on location.

Machu Picchu  is a 15th-century Inca site located 7,970 ft. above sea level. The Incas built the estate around 1450, but abandoned it a century later at the time of the Spanish Conquest. Although known locally, it was unknown to the outside world before being brought to international attention in 1911 by the American historian Hiram Bingham. Since the site was not known to the Spanish during their conquest, it is highly significant as a relatively intact cultural site. Machu Picchu was declared a Peruvian Historical Sanctuary in 1981 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. In 2007, Machu Picchu was voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in a worldwide Internet poll. DAy 7: 9/29

Service Day with "Power of the Heart" + Sweat Lodge

This is our service day where we will visit to the organic terraces and families of the non-profit The Power of the Heart. And volunteer with the children of some of the mountain schools.

We will be able to share some beautiful memories with the local school children who benefit from the organic produce. The Foundation (Power of the Heart) is taking firm steps to cultivate the local land and will have many projects for schools to provide them with healthy organic food, so will the children of the mountains can enjoy rich nourishing foods to sustain a beautiful culture for many generations to come.

That evening we will partake in a powerful Sweat Lodge ceremony where we will sweat away and cleanse all the things in our lives that no longer serve us, and open ourselves up to connecting with all the abundance and blessings we receive on a daily basis. A sweat lodge experience is in a small constructed hut enclosed inside with fresh Eucalyptus branches and the stones are heated in an outside fire and then added into the center of the hun inside and then water poured over them to create steam. In ceremonial usage, these ritual actions are accompanied by traditional prayers and songs of the Andean people.

Cristian Calderon, who is our local guide during the entire trip, and it is from this region helps run the nonprofit foundation, the Power of the Heart.  He works with these children who live in extreme environments, and is cultivating the land for 8 different local schools. 90 % of the trip cost is donated to the foundation.

DAy 8: 9/30

In the morning we will hike up to a special look out point called "The Temple of the Moon" and have a special ceremony that involves connecting with several local plants, flowers and fruits, with the local spiritual teacher "Man of Fire."  In this traditional ceremony, it is a beautiful time to further cleanse and connect with the feminine energy of the Moon. We will follow this ceremony with some gentle yoga and meditation as a group in the great outdoors.

After the ceremony we will have a organic gourmet buffet in one of the most beautiful restaurants in the Sacred Valley.

After lunch we will be traveling back to Cusco in the afternoon to explore the city of Cusco. It will be a free afternoon and evening for shopping and relaxation.

Cusco is considered the oldest continuously inhabited city in the western hemisphere and is of major historical importance. Cusco was more than just a capital city to the Incas and the millions of subjects in their realm. It was a Holy City, a place of pilgrimage with as much importance to the Quechuas as Mecca has to the Muslims. Every ranking citizen of the empire tried to visit Cusco once in his lifetime; to have done so increased his stature wherever he might travel.

According to Inca myth, the Sun sent his son, Manco Capac, and the Moon sent her daughter, Mama Ocllo, to spread culture and enlightenment throughout the dark, barbaric lands. They emerged from the waters of Lake Titicaca and began their journey in search of the place where they would form their kingdom. When they reached the present-day Cusco, Manco plunged his golden staff into the ground in order to test its suitability, and it duly sank deep into the fertile land. This was the sign they were looking for to choose the capital of their empire. They named the spot Cusco - meaning 'navel of the earth'. Thus was the significance of Cusco and the Sacred Valley established for many hundreds of years to come.

Cusco is still laid out much as it was in Inca times. The Incas conceived their capital in the shape of a puma with the river serving as the spine, Sacsayhuaman the head and the main city centre the body. Almost every central street has remains of Inca walls, arches and doorways. Many streets are lined with Inca stonework, now serving as foundations for more modern buildings.

DAy 9: 10/1

Sacsaywaman in Cusco

After a beautiful morning meditation, we will visit Sacsaywaman which is a very special walled fortress made entirely of stone. It is known as the greatest lithic monuments of the Incan architecture. Historically it was the center of all the temples where they worshiped the sun, the moon and Mother Earth. If, as it is known, Cusco was designed with the shape of a lying Puma, Sacsayhuamán would be its head. These great stone walls were constructed over seven decades and required the work of 20,000 men approximately, both for the foundations and hewn stone works, the transportation of materials, carving and stones setting.

We will then take a break and have a delicious picnic amid the great outdoors and Andean mountains.

In the afternoon we will have time to explore the whole area of Sacsayhuaman, and enjoy a stunning sunset.

We will meet back in the evening for a special farewell dinner at a renowned restaurant Limo hosted by our guide, Cristian Calderon on this last night together. Overnight in Cusco.

DAY 10: 10/2

Fly Back to Lima and then home

After breakfast and meditation we will head to the airport and fly from Cusco to Lima. Depending on your flight from Lima to home, you may stay one extra night at the Hostal el Patio in Lima.

2 years ago I had the honour to travel with the Mary Hyatt to Peru. I was on a journey for adventure and self discovery. A big shout out to Mary for organizing my trip, tour, trail walks, visa’s, and selecting the highlights of the trip. I experienced the local culture and the food was wonderful. The hike up to Machu Picchu and the sweat lodge was a highlight. If you want to travel with friends, family, or single with a group this is the best experience. I had a lot of fun, laughs, it’s an awesome trip and have never experienced anything like it before. It was a life transforming experience for me. I don’t have the heavy feeling of stress it’s been lifted, life is flowing, I sleep better. A big thank you to Mary for all the support you gave to conquer fears on the mountains-its a hard trip. You Rock!

Going to Peru with Mary was a life-changing experience! I signed up for it in a very transitional time in my life. I had no idea what to expect but knew it was something I needed to do. And I’m so glad that I did! It was exactly what I needed to find clarity and healing after a painful year. I left with a deeper sense of purpose, life-long friendships and a new found appreciation for the colorful country of Peru!
